Did you know you don’t have to jet off to Bali for a unique, eco-friendly escape surrounded by nature? Just 30 minutes from Quito’s city center, Ecuador’s Samay Collections is a hidden gem in the world of travel. The best part about it is that you don’t have to break the bank to experience luxurious, eco-friendly accommodations. It’s not a stay that I see travelers boasting about on social media, like other places. This hidden oasis provides a unique opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of Quito’s city center, a chance to reconnect with yourself and find solace for solo travelers, and it’s also the perfect retreat for couples.
The Samay Collections has a range of distinctive accommodations, from see-through treehouses to cozy domes and fantastic glamping options. While often marketed as a romantic retreat for couples, don’t let that deter you if you’re traveling solo. I went by myself and had an amazing time immersing myself in the surrounding nature. You’ll have your own villa, ensuring tranquility and minimal contact with others, so you won’t feel awkward being alone. So, let’s explore this extra-ordinary eco-friendly stay in Quito.
Samay Collection Suite Description and Cost:
Samay Collections isn’t your typical villa stay; it’s a game-changer for travelers in search of unconventional accommodations. The rooms are like a creative mix of art, architecture, design, and pure comfort, all within the lap of nature. One of the things that makes Samay Collections so special is the range of themed villas. Think Bali, the Amazon, the forest, treehouses, bamboo glamping, and more. You’ve got over 13 villas or “suites” to choose from. So, the real challenge for me was deciding which one I wanted to stay at. I chose to stay one night in the Open Sky Villa. The “Open Sky” is a glass pyramid tucked away in a eucalyptus forest, complete with a private jacuzzi and a hanging net where you can just chill and take it all in. You can book these fantastic rooms for overnight stays and explore their packages, which include dinner, breakfast, and day only experiences.

If you don’t want to stay overnight, day bookings that include breakfast or dinner start at $110 USD. Overnight bookings start off at $160 for two people. The accommodation cost doesn’t cover your food, but don’t worry; you’ve got a couple of choices. Number one, you can show up with your own food and grill in the BBQ area, but make sure you bring everything you need, from the charcoal to the spatula. The property does not supply you with any tools or utensils you will need. Or you can keep it fuss-free with room service. They’ve got a menu that ranges from romantic dinners to barbecues, breakfasts, and a solid selection of fast food items. I brought my own dinner that I bought from downtown Cusco, but added on the breakfast package for $20 USD for the next morning.
Each villa has private open-air bathrooms, wifi, a tea and coffee station, and a mini fridge, all the things you’ll find at a standard hotel. There are no privacy curtains in most of the transparent suites, but don’t worry, you’re completely alone in the villas surrounded by trees, plants and birds. The staff always knocked on my door and waited for my permission to enter.

On Site Activities:
Guests have complementary access to the spa and sauna. Massages are available, starting at $49 USD, and while reservations are a good idea, walk-ins are welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis. On-site, you’ll find a dry sauna for detoxification, a Turkish bath for a deep relaxation experience, a hot hydro massage to melt away stress, and a cold plunge to balance the heat.
There are many add-ons that you can add to your stay, such as drone photo shoots, romantic decorations (perfect for proposals or special dinners), private barbecues, and more. You can completely customize your stay.
After checking in on Thursday afternoon I spent my time eating my dinner, hanging out on the net and did a bit of reading. Friday morning, I had my breakfast ( it was so good) and hung out in the pool until it was time to check out.
